Chest Measurement

Take this measurement over the garments that will be worn under the item being ordered. With arms relaxed, measure around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades in the back. The tape should be snug but not too tight. Keep tape parallel to the floor.

Height Measurement

Fasten a measuring chart or tape to the wall and have the person being measured stand up straight against the wall chart, with their "Sunday" shoes on, and heels against the wall. The back of the head should touch the chart.

Place a ruler on top of the head, parallel to the floor. Record this measurement in feet and inches (for example, 5'6") on the Order Form under Height in Shoes.

What recommendations do you have to take care of our Baptismal Robes?

Chlorine levels in most baptisteries is maintained at a high level, and exposure to high chlorine levels tends to prematurely break down fabric fibers. Therefore to extend the life of baptismal robes, we recommend laundering them following each use.

Pre-treat any spots and stains as soon as possible, prior to washing. Zip up each robe and fasten the hook and eye closure at the neckline prior to placing in the washing machine. Do not overload the machine. Place no more than two or three baptismal robes of the same color in the wash at the same time. Do not mix black and white baptismal robes in the same wash load. Set the machine on the following cycles: warm water wash/rinse, gentle or permanent press cycle, and use a mild detergent. (Adding a fabric softener may enhance the appearance of the poplin baptismal robes, however many people today are allergic to the perfumes used in fabric softeners, therefore we regard this addition as optional.)

Set the machine dryer temperature on low or permanent press heat, and remove promptly from the dryer to reduce wrinkling. Hang the robes while still slightly damp on a nonmetal hanger. (Murphy's contoured Robe Hanger #122 is ideal, as it maintains the shape of the yoke.) Straighten the robe on the hanger, zip up and fasten the hook and eye closure and smooth the robe by hand. Little or no ironing should be needed.

Baptismal robes may also be hung to dry, however, be sure to use a nonmetal hanger when drying - as metal hangers may rust and spot the robe.

Once the robes are thoroughly dry, hang in a closet or storage unit until needed. Do not hang them in a tightly closed closet while still damp.
