How can we identify our new choir robes for the choir members?

Some choirs prefer to use a robe numbering system. Your Murphy dealer can provide you with a copy of your robe order, with the names of each choir member and his/her measurements. If you ask that the robes be labeled by number, and assign the same number to the individual member, you can reassign the robe when there is a change in membership. Or, if you prefer, we can label each robe with the individual choir member's name inside. Having one's "own robe" goes a long way towards making a person feel like he or she "belongs" to the choir.
back

How long are the banners on the Andante choir robe?

The banners are graded to different lengths, according to the finished robe length. In other words, if one choir member is short, his or her banner will be shorter than a tall person's banner. Overall, the Andante banners fall somewhere around knee length.
back

How long are the front and back banners on the Serenade?

The banner lengths on the Serenade are graded to the robe length, and vary with the height of the person. They end several inches above the hem of the robe. Ask your Murphy dealer to show you a sample Serenade robe.

Our church sanctuary was recently redecorated. Can our new robes be matched to our new color scheme?

Murphy offers hundreds of color combinations to choose from, and we will tailor any style robe you select in the colors of your choice.
The Robe Wizard's Tip: When you are ordering new robes to coordinate with a sanctuary decor, you might consider contrasting, rather than blending in with the pew upholstery fabrics. It's good for the choir to be seen as well as heard!
back

Since the Act 20 requries dry cleaning due to corded piping, can it be washed if we omit piping from our order?

The Act 20 may still require dry cleaning, depending on your color combination. Some colors require dry cleaning. Ask your Murphy dealer for assistance when choosing "washable" colors.
back

The bottom of the sleeve on the Triad looks like it is a little stiffer than a plain sleeve. Is it?

Because the sleeve bands on the Triad are edged on both sides with corded piping, the bottom of the sleeves are a little "stiffer" and billow out more than a plain sleeve. Ask your Murphy dealer to show you a sample Triad, so you can try it on before making a purchasing decision.
back

The Omega seems to be two different colors in front and split down the middle between them. What is the back like?

We're sorry we don't have a picture of the back of this robe, but it is split between two colors in back as well as front. This is a great robe for an active choir that included synchronized moves in their performance. You really need to see this robe in person - ask your Murphy dealer to order a sample for you to see and try on.
back

The Overture shows corded piping on the yoke, collar, and sleeve bands. What piping colors can we choose?

You may choose any piping color from the list in our Murphy Robes Fabric Selector. We have piping colors to match most robe colors. Ask your dealer for your free Fabric Selector.

The picture of the Orion shows gold metallic corded piping used as trim. Does corded piping come in any other metallic color besides gold?

You may choose either gold or silver metallic piping, both of which are upgrades, and cost a little more than our regular corded pipings. Ask your Murphy dealer for the cost of the Orion-M in your choice of fabrics and colors if you want metallic piping.

The picture shows that the corded piping around the collar is a different color from the corded piping around the yoke and banner. What if we want the same color piping everywhere?

No problem. You may select any color corded piping for both the collar and the yoke and banner that we offer. See our Fabric Selector for the list of available colors. The cost of gold or silver metallic piping is included in the cost of the Kuba-M in our Choral Attire price list, along with the Woven Kente accent as shown. That price also includes the Lame accent on the collar and sleeves. Be sure to ask your Murphy dealer for assistance when ordering this robe - it can get complicated!
back

The sleeves in the picture of the Overture look like they billow out a little. What do they actually look like?

Because the sleeve bands on the Overture are edged on both sides with corded piping, this sleeve does billow out more than a plain sleeve would. Ask your Murphy dealer to show you a sample Overture robe, so you can try it on before making a purchasing decision.
back

We have 52 choir members, and no two are exactly the same height and size. Will that be a problem when we order new robes?

While some manufacturers tailor only 6 or seven sizes expecting everyone to fit into those sizes, Murphy tailors each custom robe to the exact measurements of each choir member. Larger sizes are no problem, and we will specially adapt our robes for handicapped members wherever possible. Just let us know what you want- we like to help.
back

We would like to order the corded piping that circles the yoke and collar of the Omega in a different color. What are our choices?

You may choose any corded piping color listed in our Fabric Selector. Ask your Murphy dealer for your free copy.
back

What color are the cuffs on this robe?

The cuffs are the same color as the inverted sleeve and body pleats.
back

What do we need to do to maintain the appearance of our new robes?

During the times your robes are being worn, don't wear jewelry that has rough edges that might snag your robe. Watch out for hymnals or pews that have ragged corners or splinters. Be sure to keep any Velcro cuffs closed as well. All of these things can snag or pill robe fabrics.
Suggest to your choir members that heavy perfumes and shaving lotions be avoided - these odors can penetrate fabric, as well as cause problems for allergic choir members. Use care to keep makeup off the necklines of robes and stoles. Makeup bases contain oils that can stain fabric. Avoid spraying hairspray while wearing your choir robe for the same reason. Do not eat or drink anything other than water while wearing your robe to avoid food or beverage stains.
Between wearings, we recommend hanging your choir robes on our contoured Robe Hanger #122 which is designed to preserve the yoke shape while storing. Using a contoured robe hanger will prevent rust stains sometimes caused by wire hangers, as well as avoid crease lines caused by thin wire hangers. Be sure to close any Velcro closures such as cuffs, so they won't snag adjacent robes.
Don't wait until your choir robes or stoles show significant soiling or heavy makeup stains to clean. Schedule the cleaning or laundering of your robes on a regular basis, at least once a year, more often if your robes feature high necklines or cuffs.
Plain robes tailored in one color without embroidery or corded piping are generally machine washable. We recommend washing no more than two robes at a time, using a cold water, gentle or permanent press cycle wash, followed by machine dry, delicate cycle, low heat until the robes are "damp dry", then hang on a plastic hanger to complete the drying, and smooth out any wrinkles by hand while the robes are still damp. Any touch up ironing required should be lightly steamed out with a hand steamer or steam iron on polyester setting. Choir robes tailored in two or more colors, and robes which feature trims such as corded piping or key trim, require dry cleaning.
back

What is the best size symbol to place on the Serenade banners?

The maximum size symbol for the Serenade banners is determined by the width of the symbol - and our symbol sizes are mostly indicated in lengths. Any symbol coded "A" or "B" on our Choral Attire price list will fit a Serenade banner.
back

What metallic ribbon trims are available for the Celebration choir robe?

back

What options do we have for trims on the Act 27?

You may select from any of our Key or Wheat trims, which are available in black-gold, white-gold, black-silver, or white silver. You may also subsititute corded piping, if you prefer.
back

What trims are available for the Aria?

Along with corded piping in your choice of colors for the yoke and collar, you may select from several Key and Wheat Trims for the sleeves. Both are available in white-gold, black-gold, white-silver, and black-silver. Ask your Murphy dealer to show you a sample robe so you may see the trim first hand.
back

When are sleeve lengths required on a choir robe order?

Normally, we do not require sleeve lengths on a choir robe order, because our sleeve lengths are graded to the average arm length of the average person of a given height, based on tables provided by the U.S. Bureau of Standards, as well as our own experience of many years. However, if your choir has a member or members with unusually long or short arms, please provide shirt sleeve lengths for these individuals.
